A Physicist's Guide to Smoked Gouda

24 July 2003 09:32

good day in the lab yesterday. i went in for the lunch seminar, then headed up to the lab to see what was going on. i came in just as they began control measurements on the witness sample AND taking apart the big cryostat. so i spent a good three hours watching measurements stay the same that were sposed to stay the same, watching them lift apart the cryostat with a large crane, and then trying to scrape away the indium seals from the cryostat with a stick of wood. fun!

and the fun continued. so much fun that went on for so long, in fact, that when i came home at eleven i literally ran into my roommate leaving the room to ask my whereabouts cause i hadnt been seen in so long. yes, we are so daring and spontaneous here at the physics reu that we start to worry if youre not home by eleven.

so what naughty things did i do to keep me out so late? i continued my three day long search for a working and unused tv/vcr so i could watch drumline. i finally found one in dillon, and you know what? its a much better movie than i originally gave it credit for. it is more engaging than a disney afterschool special (ok, not by much, its certainly no dancer in the dark) and the band scenes actually show the bands instead of flitting between shots of scantily clad dancers and the crowd going wild. this is A Band Geek's Movie.

after that it was the amc channel for a pearl harbor movie, whose line is it anyway, and the daily show. more tv than ive watched all summer, packed into one evening. we also tentatively started thinking about a ROAD TRIP! to pittsburgh for the notre dame pitt game on oct 11. oooh, and with all the minivans at our disposal, how awesome would that be. wheeee.

and i cut my nails finally, just so i could type this.
