A Physicist's Guide to Smoked Gouda

ahhhh. today was hot and breezy, and my sarong was definitely the best possible choice for attire. nothing more than a beautiful piece of cloth wrapped and tied at my back. plus, i dont think i wore shoes at all today, except for my flip flops in the bathroom and the dining hall. ive been going barefoot pretty consistently now for about a week. yeah, id have to say dan inspired me and supported me to do it, and then michael followed suit when he was here for the weekend. i love feeling like im that much closer to the earth, and i love feeling all the subtle differences in texture...im even more aware of what trees are on what quads by the twigs, leaves, and acorns/burrs in the grass. and i love being at a college, because theres nothing to say you have to wear shoes inside the buildings. so i go to class nakedfoot too. in fact, this morning i was walking to debartolo behind another barefoot girl with flip flops in her hands. and before she entered the building, she put them on. and you kinda have to ask yourself, why? it doesnt make sense that you dont want to put your feet on the dirty floor, cause you were just barefoot outside. or that you dont want to put your dirty feet on the floor, cause youre feet are just as dirty as any shoes coming through that door, and perhaps even cleaner because feet get bathed. social custom? in japan, you take your shoes off when you enter a building, why should we put ours on? it really doesnt make much sense to go barefoot outdoors and then put shoes on to go inside a buiding that doesnt require. so as long as the weather is nice, i wont.

it also means im getting calluses on my feet in all the right places. hopefully, that would be an advantage for hiking somehow? the first couple days i went nakedfoot i kept looking down to see what i was stepping on, now i just walk. walking barefoot also makes me more aware of the way i walk, and the way my feet are hitting the ground.

so between the sarong, my bare feet, and my anklet of bells (wow i love jingly musically as i walk! ...the blasphemy in my old jangly walk...) i was just feeling grand today.
