17 miles is kinda long for the first trip on the water in the season. today was also the first day ive worn shorts this year.

but really, if you ever see me about to step into a canoe with my step mother, please just slap me. i had to canoe with her for eight miles today, and i was in the back. she scrapes her paddle along the edges of the canoe, causing the paddle to give people splinters and blisters. yah, i had to use that paddle today. dad says she paddles crooked, but i just simply out-paddle her. for every three strokes i took, i had to make one big corrective sweep to keep us pointed downstream. and it didnt help that we were trying to go quickly so we didnt miss the lunch truck, but every time i made a corrective stroke we really slowed down. i was getting entirely too frustrated.

so at lunch, i convinced dad to switch with me. i did the last nine miles of the trip in a kayak, even though i had never been in a kayak before. at first it was kinda difficult to keep it straight, but at least i had no one to blame but myself. but i got the hang of it really quickly, and the kayak gives me a lot more confidence going through rapids. though i did notice tonight that i have bruises on the sides of my knees from where i braced them against the sides of the kayak. and my shoulders are going to be killing me in the morning.

i got to play dominoes with michael last night. first nick and brenda came to pick me up and we met erin, beth, dan, michael, richard, tony, and chris at the bowling alley. after that we went to the coffeeshop where some played hacky sack and michael and i played dominoes. of course i beat him, but by the end he was definitely getting better. if we keep playing through the summer and if we can get some more people to play in teams this would be fantastic. nick and brenda even got some nachos from sheetz.

tonight was more chaotic, a good example of which would be the random flying of the hacky sack. for one thing, everything was thrown together randomly and some people never showed up in designated places and moods were weird and there was a clarinet playing summertime in the coffeeshop. pretty darn cool.

but i have to go to work tomorrow. maybe i can bribe someone there to rub my shoulders for me while im taking orders or something.

i got a little sunburned. kind of a documentative entry. i dont know if i like that. i dont know if i want to leave it this way. maybe the mall has made me shallow.
