A Physicist's Guide to Smoked Gouda

ok. so last week, i swore i was getting the hang of this discipline thing because i sat my first detention. but whatever. i learned a lot more about how to manage my classroom today when my principal and i went over her comments and recommendations after she spent two periods observing my class.

last weekend we went to gallup, again. for yet another teacher in-service. and we picked up this darling nigerian nun from sacred heart catholic school in farmington, sister annunciata. and while i was looking over the posters in their hallway i saw something that seemed vaguely familiar. hey, i know those people, i thought. and those clothes, they seem really familiar to me too. argghhh! its the baritone section of the nd band! turns out the principal of sacred heart school has a daughter in the nd band and this picture was taken before concert on the steps during one of his visits. to come across this in new mexico was rather freaky indeed.

the rest of the in-service was rather useless. in summary: yay catholic schools, boo our kids are at risk, multiple intelligences, multiple temperaments, legal issues, catholic catholic catholic and supervise supervise supervise (the two commandments for catholic school teachers). thats about it.

but on the way back, we stopped in farmington for a wal-mart run, dinner, and a movie. we felt like real people for once! four of us went to see the village and giggled our way through it, gleefully anticipating our return to a remote, rural, nearly wooded area....what?

then on sunday my daddy came to visit. yay! he joined us for mass and brunch, then went exploring while i did lesson plans, and came back for dinner at kristelles ranch in colorado. monday he came into school to teach my science class for me, and then we went to dinner in chama. as soon as we got back from that, i welcomed sister marsaia and sister camilla.

sister marsaia and sister camilla are originally from wisconsin, but are here in the diocese of gallup to check up on the schools and their music programs in particular. sister camilla is really really really hoping that i get a real classroom soon. yes, extra prayers are welcome.

so that brings us up to today. and today went really well. i started by implementing some of the suggestions kristelle had for me and i noticed an immediate improvement.

yesterday we had a picnic out on the basketball court, and now weve rented the second season of sex and the city, one of the few seasons i havent seen all the way through. we call this our antiteacher therapy, because after spending all day around little kids you need something to remind you that you are indeed a young, single woman.

and if you havent seen it already, go to xanga.com/entropic_ankh to see pictures of our pet black widow spider.
