A Physicist's Guide to Smoked Gouda

merry christmas. thats merry like mary not merry like murry, as my mom would pronounce it.

the best part of christmas was definitely the childrens mass at st paul's in princeton. theyve got a living creche. . . okay its basically a petting zoo with a nativity scene in it. but there was the sweetest little black goat, and it turns out that it was born in the same creche last christmas, and the priest named it epiphany. but the best part was the childrens choir dressed up like angels, all the little girls of the parish with tinsel halos in their hair, and all the little boys dressed up like shepherds. it was packed of course, and i had to stand by the wall the entire, time, but id rather do that if the alternative was to be squished in a pew. so for the gospel they had the traditional eighth grade girl dressed like mary, and they even had a real baby for her to hold, and when they mentioned "angels" all the little girls with halos came up to the sanctuary, and at "shepherds" all the little boys came up to gather around mary and the baby. and the priests homily was really cheesy, as usual. father sceski used to do something like this too, call all the children up and give a special childrens homily. so he absolutely has to mention santa claus for the children, but at least he kept it somewhat religious. what he did was he started a different homily, then had someone call his cell phone and when it range, he pulled it out of his vestements and started talking on it. lo and behold, it was santa nicholas, as he called him. the rest of the homily was a conversation between the priest and santa nicholas where santa explained the symbolism of all the decorations around the church, and exclaimed over their gorgeous angels and handsome shepherds.

but for christmas sake, the feast of saint nicholas was weeks ago. i put my shoe out in the hall like a good little girl, and saint nicholas came and put candy in it. i know the kids like santa and all, but can we at least keep the christmas mass holy? it really bugs me now and then how secular christmas has become with santa and everything. i dont think christmas is even the most major of christian holidays, i think easter would be. ::sighs:: anyway, i dont mean to be negative. i did get teary eyed at the childrens mass on christmas eve.

garrett got a shirt for christmas that he thought id appreciate: protons have mass? i didnt even know they were catholic!

im leaving for arizona in about 5 hours.

again this christmas, my sisters are making sure i dont go out of style. kathy always gets me stuff that i would never buy for myself, but i end up loving to death. they know that they can go into a delias store and ill love just about anything they pick up. and that if they get me stuff from gap, ill wear it, but only after i remove any evidence that it came from the gap. caitlin does the same thing. my dad gave me a purple sarong he picked up in alaska. its absolutely gorgeous! bob gave me a lava lamp and mom gave me functional stuff like toothpaste and --exactly what i wanted-- a toothbrush.

::yawns::

i cant wait for arizona
